The Smarter Senses Project
The Smarter Senses Project is a multi stranded initiative from it@cork to deliver assistive technology to children with autism. The project has been developed in cooperation with the Shine Centre for Autism in Cork and has to date delivered touch screen technologies, kidsmart computers and a Sensory Garden for the eighty children who use the centre on a weekly basis.

According to Denis Collins Chairman of it@cork "The I.T Industry should be a primary leader in this space where our skills can so positively affect the lives of children and adults with autism. The Smarter Senses Project is a great example of it@cork, industry leaders and technology making a difference where it is greatly needed".

Phase one of the project has been supported by it@cork members Laya Healthcare, BNY Mellon and IBM. We are now ready to embark on the even more ambitious second phase of the project to propel the Shine Centre to a global benchmark in developing learning applications and technologies to assist in the teaching of children with autism. This second phase will open up opportunities for members of it@cork, in partnership with the Shine Centre to develop innovative and dynamic applications in this area.  The Smarter Senses Project is not all about funding, it is about participation and how the smallest contributions of finance or human effort can snowball into something momentous. There is always a spare seat at the table.

Thank you,

Eamon O'Donovan, Chairperson - Shine Centre for Autism
