Sponsor A School With Vex Robotics Program

Sponsor A School With Vex Robotics Program

The Vex Robotics Program was introduced to promote STEM subjects in school in a fun and meaningful way. The inaugural Vex Robotics Competition Ireland was launched in Cork in 2012. We are now looking to expand the program to include more schools and are asking for your help in achieving this. Your support will be key in growing the program and giving more young people the opportunity to become involved.

Select and Engage with a School you wish to Sponsor:

To maximize engagement we recommend adopting a secondary school in your locality or one where your employees have an interest. If you already have adopted a school through it@cork, you could engage with that school on the Vex program. Identifying a teacher(s) that would lead the initiative in the school is fundamental for success. The average team size in a school last year was 12 students. We targeted the junior cycle students (1st – 3rd year) to capture their interest in STEM before they reach senior cycle. Please let us know as soon as possible when you’ve identified/engaged a school or contact us if you require further information.

Order The VEX Kit for your School:

Once you have selected your school and the team is organised, the next step is to go to the VEX website http://www.vexrobotics.com/vex/products/ to order your kit. From there you simply register and choose the Kits and accessories you wish to provide for your team. Following our experiences with the 8 schools last year, we recommend the Classroom and Competition Super Kit 276-3000 as the preferred starter kit. This kit is available from VEX and it has everything your team will need to develop and build a competitive robot in their first year of participation. Total cost, including registration with Vex, is in the region of €975. You can also choose to supply your school/team with any additional equipment from the VEX range. The VEX website has plenty of information to help you make your choices.

You also have the option of joining with another company to sponsor a school, share the costs and provide mentors.  If this is an option that interests you please contact us for further information.

These are the first two steps on your VEX journey and we would encourage you to get these underway as soon as you can. The next steps, including training for teachers and mentors, as well as an overview of the competition, are currently being organized by EMC in conjunction with the REC foundation.

To get a taste of the impact on and engagement of young people in the Vex Robotics program check out the videos and photos on our Facebook page.
