Computer Systems Engineer, School of Computer Science & Information Technology

Permanent Whole Time Post

Applications are invited for the position of Computer Systems Engineer in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology. Reporting to the Computer Systems Manager, the Computer Systems Engineer will work in a growing and dynamic academic unit (two new programmes introduced in 2018 with consequent increase in staff) and provide support to students and staff across a broad range of academic, research, and administrative activities, with a special focus on specialised hardware and associated software, e.g. for embedded / Internet of Things systems, multimedia and human-computer interface devices and network equipment.

The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly and to undertake other duties from time to time in order to maintain a consistent high quality of service.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience in a software/ hardware support role in a large organization and have a degree in computer science, engineering or related field. S/he will exhibit excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of organisational ability. S/he will have the ability to quickly research and find solutions to problems, sometimes under time pressure. S/he will enjoy working as part of a team committed to delivering in a flexible and dynamic working environment.

Appointment may be made on the Admin V Salary Scale: €41,262 – €50,848 (Scale B) / €39,291 – €48,398 (Scale A). In all instances the successful appointment will be at the first point of the scale.
